Is Anthisan available in different pack sizes?
Yes, Anthisan is available in a 20g or 25g pack. Anthisan Bite and Sting Cream 20g can be purchased online or in the Healthcare or Travel sections within pharmacies and supermarkets.
Anthisan cream 25g is available from the pharmacy counter in stores – just ask at the counter for Anthisan cream.
How does Anthisan work?
When you are bitten or stung, the body’s immune system produces histamine to help protect your skin from foreign objects. The histamine causes inflammation and swelling of the skin and it can also feel itchy. Anthisan contains an antihistamine, which stops the histamine affecting your body’s cells by blocking receptors, which helps reduce swelling and inflammation.
Can I use Anthisan on cuts & grazes or sunburnt skin?
You should NOT use Anthisan on cut, grazed or extensively broken skin. It should not be used on areas of sunburnt skin.
I have eczema. Can I use Anthisan?
We recommend that Anthisan is NOT used on eczema.
What are the active ingredients in Anthisan?
The active ingredient in Anthisan is Mepyramine Maleate. This belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.
Other ingredients are: ceto-stearyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol 600 monostearate, castor oil and methyl hydroxybenzoate, foin coupe (fragrance), silicon antifoam and purified water.
How often should I apply Anthisan?
The recommended dose is 2-3 times a day for up to three days.
For best results, use as soon as possible after the bite or sting.
What should I do if I feel a burning sensation immediately after I apply Anthisan?
You should stop using Anthisan if you notice signs of skin sensitivity. These include skin redness, swelling and itching, pain or burning sensation. If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
How should Anthisan be stored?
Do not store above 30 degrees centigrade. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Can Anthisan be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding?
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you get bitten or stung by an insect and are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can I use Anthisan on infected insect bites?
Anthisan is intended to be used on insect bites and stings that are not infected.
